frequently asked questions: PUPIL

Who are the members of PUPIL?
PUPIL are Bogs Jugo, Dok Sergio,
Ely Buendia,
and Yan Yuzon.

Why did the band change its name?
The Mongols disbanded in early May 2005 due to legal reasons and after charter member Jerome Velasco amicably left to pursue a career in sound engineering. Aw month after being apart, the remaining members decided to form a new band. PUPIL was born.

What's the origin of the band's name?
How do bands come up with their names? Most likely it's a case of “what's the coolest sounding word?” In PUPIL's case, the choice was narrowed down to a single-word name, preferably short, simple yet elegant, technical but familiar, should sound more like an electronic band than a rock band, and, probably the most important, easy to say/spell/shout/scream. Early candidates were: Narcom, Tyrel Corp, Traitors, The Gets, Villain, Lords of Nasdaq, and Trochlear.

Which of the two possible meanings
of the word “pupil” does the band endorse?
It's split. Ely chanced upon the name while reading a medical book, and he liked the fact that pupil was the part of the eye where the light comes in. Yan likes the “eternal learning” connotations of the name.

Have they recorded anything yet?Only demos for the debut album they hope to release before the year ends.

Videos?
None.

Do they have regular gigs?
Yes. They hold a monthly production called Livestock and play with bands like Spongecola, Kiko Machine, Menaya, Tawo, Sleepyheads and more. Usually held every last Saturday of the month, Livestock used to be held at 70's Bistro, but now shifts between Gweilo's Eastwood and Saguijo Makati. They recently played newly renovated The Hole and also play regularly at 6 Underground both in Makati . Check out the Bulletin Board regularly for gig skeds.

Are the members still involved with other bands?
Yes. Bogs and Dok are still active members of Daydream Cycle, for which Jerome still plays guitar; Yan fronts neo-glam outfit Cat Siamese, and Ely is also in the Elytistas with Diane, who plays the drums.

Who designed the site?
Keith Bacongco, who is based in Davao . He's also responsible for the now obsolete Mongols site and a slew of other cool sites which he all designed and personally updates. Know more about him in the links.

Who do I contact for shows?
You can contact either Diane: 0918-9234309 or Day: 0917-8070080.

Where can I send my own questions?
E-mail your questions to info@pupilopolis.com , pupilopolis@gmail.com

Is this the end of the tour?
Yes. Feel free to enjoy Pupilopolis's other attractions. Thank you.
